Join the Black Education Strategy Roundtable
Making systemic changes to our public education system that improve outcomes for Black students, our mission , requires strong voices working in unison. A core strength of the Black Education Strategy Roundtable (BESR) is our membership. When speaking with elected officials and policy-makers, having a strong membership amplifies our message. Your paid BESR membership adds your voice to our work in changing our public education system.

BESR Membership Composition
Everyone concerned about the educational achievement of Black students should join BESR. Our membership includes:

• Parents and families
• P-16 teachers, faculty, administrators, staff, school board directors and college trustees
• Students
• People of every race
• Elected officials
• Faith-based organizations
• Civic and business organizations
• Community leaders

BESR members stay informed on key issues impacting Black students and bring their collective experience, knowledge and wisdom in determining effective strategies to improve educational outcomes. Again, we need your voice and wisdom in fulfilling BESR’s mission.

BESR Members Act
BESR Workshops , action team events and our statewide conference provide important information on policy, budget and emerging education issues. BESR membership commit to act on the information they receive. From engaging with your local principal and teachers to meeting with state-level policy makers and legislators, systemic change will not occur without consistent action by BESR members.

Financial Sustainability of BESR
Corporate and foundation funding is impacted by membership numbers. A strong and growing membership increases BESR’s chances in securing needing funding. Receiving funds for an advocacy organization solely focused on Black students is challenging. BESR must remain singularly focused on Black students if we are to improve their educational outcomes. A strong membership can make the difference in receiving a grant from a corporation, foundation or other funding source. Your membership will make a difference.

Be Part of the BESR Network
BESR functions connects parents, families, educators, caregivers, students, and community members with each other. Advocacy for Black students can feel isolating. With BESR, members discover other champions who experience similar barriers doing this work. Creating networks with like minded BESR members sustains us in the on-going work we must do.
