Quarterly workshops
(VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON) The Black Education Strategy Roundtable (BESR) is the only Washington based organization with a specific focus on the education of Black/African American students. Attend a quarterly meeting to advocate, get involved, learn more about BESR.
The Black Education Strategy Roundtable Workshop is the opportunity for members and guests to engage in discussion, learning and planning on key issues impacting the education of Black students in Washington State. The meetings, which take from 10:30 am – 3:00 pm four Saturdays a year, are attended by educators, parents, students and community leaders.
There are three guiding principals for the Workshops.
- Strengthen connections between BESR members.
BESR members bring significant expertise, experience and passion to our work. Our combined insight, wisdom and determination strengthen us all to diligently remain active in the struggle to create systemic change in our education system. BESR workshops are inspirational. - Inform BESR members on key education issues, policies and best practices.
Quarterly Workshop attendees can hear from state officials, school district leaders and legislators on current education issues and policies. Frequently, BESR members are the experts making the presentations. - Empower BESR members to advocate for Black students in their local school buildings, school districts or with state level organizations.
Attendance at a BESR workshop is not our goal. Empowering members to use the information they receive at a BESR workshop is critical. From monitoring school district budgets to advocating for policies and best practices that improve outcomes for Black students, engagement of the BESR membership is the purpose of our workshops.
